Description

Messier 16 (NGC-6611) also known as the Eagle Nebula, is a young open cluster of stars imbedded in a large area of hydrogen gas and dust which contains several active star-forming areas, including the famous "Pillars of Creation" area made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope image. This cluster/nebula was discovered by Jean-Phillipe de Chesaux in 1745, and is located in the constellation of Serpens.
