Description

First light with my new Edge 11 HD and first attempt at mono imaging. ~45 minutes of data on each filter with plans to add more as the clouds allow.

I have been fascinated with the Pillars of Creation since I first saw images from the Hubble telescope nearly 30yrs ago so this image is almost unbelievable to me after almost 30yrs of curiosity and lurking in astrophotography forums (once they became available anyway) to finally capture an image of my own.

Photography has been a hobby for more than 30yrs but Astrophotography is still pretty new to me, I took a couple untracked images a year and a half ago after watching a YouTube video and I was hooked. I spent another year researching before I purchased my first mount (an AM5) then focused on learning how to process the images from my Canon R5 and a 70-200mm f2.8 lens. Recently I have started feeling the frustration of trying to get acceptable images out my setup and the large amount of processing involved to correct gradients and misshapen stars so have been watching for used gear when I found this Edge 11 with a mount for a price to good to pass up even though I wasn’t really ready to tackle something with this much focal length. After I verified that the deal was legit I started researching what I would need to get it setup for AP and nearly backed out twice due to frustration and being overwhelmed by the vast array of opinions on this scope. I am so glad I stuck with it this scope is truly impressive, I still have a ways to go and a probable mount upgrade in my future but I am excited to embark on this journey!

I would appreciate any constructive feedback on my image or helpful tips for my imaging setup.
