Description

A globular cluster of stars approximately 16000 light years from earth, and containing anywhere between ~500,000 to a million stars depending on your source of information. Like other globular clusters, the lack of heavier elements means that astronomers haven't been able to identify planets orbiting it's stars, and there is no active star forming going on in 47 tucanae. Globular clusters contain very very old stars so they are like the aged care facilities of the universe, and exist outside the edge of the Milky Way and other galaxies.

Astrofckup: next time I will reduce the exposure time but take more exposures so that the core isn't blown out so much. I recently learned about dithering ("Dither or die!" ) and it's the first image with my dedicated astro camera that hasn't had walking noise, dithering definitely works! Also my first image with a much longer focal length so I did plate solving polar alignment three times to get it as accurate as possible.
