Description

PN G75.5+1.7, or Soap Bubble, is a planetary nebula that was discovered by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich in 2008. The reasons it was not discovered until recently are given as its faintness and the fact that it is embedded in a diffuse nebula. At a distance of 4000 light years and 5 light years in diameter, its spherical symmetry is considered remarkable and comparable to Abell 39 (my A39 is in the link to TIFF/FITS) which is about the same visual size. At 5 ly diameter, I estimate the PN shell to be 0.13 lyr thick (1.6 light-months). North is up.
