Description

I took this image set three years ago and just now getting around to processing it.

This was a hopeful experiment at the time. The Flats, Bias, and Dark images were all taken separately on different dates, so even the processing of this set of Lights is an experiment. To further add to the experiment, this is the first image set fully processed with Affinity Photo v1.9.1 (with the exception of the Darks and Bias which were integrated with PixInsight) using the new Astrophotography tools from stacking to final processing. Without using the video tutorial by James Ritsin, Product Expert for Affinity Photo, this would have been impossible for me.

Normally, I would attempt this with PixInsight, which I tried and which fell apart quickly, first during the stacking process and finally during the initial background removal. So discovering that Affinity Photo would stack the images and then process everything successfully was a real coup for Affinity Photo. Finally, the time to stack the images was less than 10 minutes for Affinity Photo and more than an hour for PixInsight, so that's another feather in the cap for Affinity Photo.

This image set far outshines my original Markarians Chain which was shot with a Canon 60D on an 80mm refractor.

Due to a poor set of Flats, I was forced to crop this image severely from the original. Still, with the Affinity Photo processing techniques that I have learned, as minimal as they are, I am quite pleased with how this turned out. Basically, I have saved an otherwise forgotten image.
