Hi eclipse chasers,
It's going to be my first attempt at imaging an eclipse.
Would you say a Samyang 135mm + ZWO ASI585 is a good combination for imaging the corona in terms of FOV?

What exposure would be ideal?
How to not mess things up given that Ive never tried solar imaging?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

You have anything in your kit in the 300mm range vs the Samyang135?

Not really, I have a 750mm MAK but thats too much. asi585 has a small sensor so that should make FOV a bit narrower. But still pretty wide.

Lots of YouTube videos on photographing the eclipse.  Watch a few and get out and practice before Monday...

OK. then you will need to watch some videos and get your camera setup to do some "bracketed exposures" to capture the entire corona. It is like photographing M42.  To long of an exposure you blow out the corona close to the sun and to short doesn't get the extended, fainter elements, that are dimmer. So a series of photos of various exposures are needed ,then blending them together in post processing  yields the classic Corona shot....

Hi, a 135mm may be on the short focal lengths side but the corona extends pretty far out (multiple times the sun's radius).

As for the exposure it really varies from setup-to setup and on the conditions that day. You can use the following site to calculate/estimate what exposure would work for your setup: http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/SolarEclipseExposure.html

Hope this helps.
