Description

I thought I would see how the ASI6200 full frame camera would work on a high resolution mosaic of the moon. The upside of the large sensor was that even with the reach of a Celstron EdgeHD 11 and a 2xPowerMate I only needed six panels. The downside was that I could only get a capture frame rate of about 1.2fps. To get that rate I had to use an SD drive that SharpCap was reporting a transfer rate north of 300 Mbits/s. A 500 frame run resulted in each panel being 60Gb in size and took a while to capture. Lucky the skies kept clear. Processing was a bit of a challenge. The first attempt using Autotakkert ended up cropping all of the panels to 8000x6000, but I managed to find a setting in the INI file to increase the maximum resolution to the full 9576x6388. The seeing wasn't really supporting the pixel scale, but I used an IR pass filter to do my best to steady the scene and it definately helped. It took some CPU grunt to process. I always find it difficult to judge the amount of sharpening, but hopefully kept it light weight (Photoshop to combine panels, Pixinsight Deconv, MSLTransform, Unsharpmark, then back to Photoshop to lighten slightly and do a little denoise).
