About the Image:How deep can you go with 10x5 minute exposures in a bortle 1 sky?
And how well will fit everything in a Mosaic?
Does a light polution filter improve contrast under bortle 1 skies?
These and more were the questions that this image should answer for me...
It was meant just as a "dry-run" for my
6-panel mosaic of the Rho Ophiuchi region, but after a quick processing it turned out to be a very special result!
The image consists of two panels with 10x5 minute exposures each, and has a high resolution of about 44 Megapixels.
Due to the short integration time of 50 minutes per panel the signal to noise ratio is far from optimal, but the final image is still stunning.
The Blue Horsehead Nebula is a reflection nebula very close to the
Rho-Ophiuchi cloud complex - its distance from earth is about 420 lightyears.
Below you can see its position in relation to the other bright nebulosity of the region.
Processing:The processing of the image was done completely in Pixinsight, using the "X-Tools", HDR Multiscan, LHE and other advanced processing techniques to bring out the maximum detail.
Location and Equimpent:The image was taken at the
Rooisand Desert Ranch in Namibia, during our stay in May 2023. The telescope and the mount was rented from
DeepSkySafaris.com.
