Description

Messier 13 - The Great Hercules Globular Cluster!

This image is the result of 8.5 hours of LRGB integration with my Astro-Physics 130mm EDT using a ZWO ASI2600MM-Pro camera and an IOptron CEM60 mount.

This was shot over 3 evenings on 5-29-22, 5-30-22, and 5-31-22

I have imaged this target several times before but this time I wanted to do the best job I could.

I chose my telescope with the longest focal length to get the best image scale,   I used my best camera - the wonderful ZWO ASI2600MM-pro.  I shot as many subs as I could over a three-day period of clear skies.  I was extra careful with the Polar Alignment and I ran Guide Assistant on PHD2 to update the guiding parameters.   I was particularly aggressive in using SubframeSelector to eliminate subs that outlier FWHM or Eccentricity measures.  Finally, I took great pains to get the deconvolution results.

I was very pleased with the sharpness and detail I was able to achieve with this target.  I was amazed at the detail I had captured with the two tiny galaxies (NGC 6207 at 43 million light-years, and the even smaller IC 4617 at a whopping 503 million light-years).

The story of the image and complete processing walk-through can be seen on my website at:

Thanks for looking, and let me know if you have any questions!
