NGC 2261 aka Hubble's Variable Nebula is a reflection nebula located in the constellation Monoceros illuminated by the star R Monocerotis. R Mon lights up a nearby cloud of gas and dust, but the shape and brightness slowly changes visibly over weeks and months, and the nebula looks like a small comet. There is no predictable periodicity to the variation. One explanation proposed for the variability is that dust near R Mon periodically blocks the illumination from the star. This casts a temporary shadow on the nearby clouds.

This dataset containing over 19 hrs of images spread out over 4 months was captured at Telescope.Live (CHI-1), requested by Astrobiscuit. The main image is of course the integration of all data, but I have also included a gif of 22 frames showing some signs of change in the morphology of the nebula. Unfortunately, the nebula wasn't very dynamic over this period of time. Nevertheless, you can see some rippling effect.
