Description

Messier 20, also known as the Trifid Nebula, is a star-forming region approximately 5200 light-years away, seen in the constellation of Sagittarius. It consists of an emission nebula (the red portion), a reflection nebula (blue), and a dark nebula (the spaces).

This image was formed by blending RGB broadband data with Ha and OIII narrowband images. Short-exposure RGB star image data were also selectively blended into the image.
