Description

The Spaghetti Nebula - 100-Hour SHO

I just completed my first 100-hour astrophotography project, and it was nothing short of magical! The Spaghetti Nebula looked ethereal, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I spent 35 hours on Ha, 43 on Oiii, 23 on Sii, and three on RGB stars. However, I've come to understand that to capture even more detailed images in the future, I need to upgrade my telescope to one with higher resolving power. The Redcat51 has been a great scope and best companion to me for many months, whereas this 100-hour project taught me the limitations of this small scope.

SH2-240 is a very faint Supernova remnant between the constellations Auriga and Taurus.  The nebula was discovered in 1952 at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory using a special camera and hydrogen alpha filters.  The nebulous area is large and has an apparent diameter of 3 degrees (about 6 full moons wide).  It is estimated to be about 3000 light years from earth and an age of about 40,000 years.
