Description

This is a two panel mosaic of the Horsehead and Flame nebulae taken over the course of about a week of November, 2022. I ran into a myriad of issues processing this image due to having frost on my scope for a good chunk of the green subs. This caused some strange gradients over high signal areas that made background extraction incredibly frustrating. If you look closely, there are also a few reflections present that are greenish-yellow. I opted to leave them be instead of clone-stamping them out. Unfortunately, I may have accidentally gone a little hard on the sharpening. I was just excited to use Blur xTerminator, as it had just come out as I started to process this image.

Panel 1 (Horsehead half)
R = 117 x 120s
G = 77 x 120s
B = 91 x 120s
Ha = 28 x 300s

Panel 2 (Flame half)
R = 149 x 120s
G = 65 x 120s
B = 78 x 120s
Ha = 41 x 300s

I will definitely be revisiting this project when the Northeastern weather decides to clear up a bit. I would have liked 150 exposures per channel, and to have some shorter exposures to tame Alnitak and friends. Also, I will definitely dial back the sharpening, or at least target it more towards the places that will benefit from it. For now though, I am happy with the result.
