Description

Nearly 3,000 light-years distant, in the Constellation of Cepheus, lies IC 1369, and its associated cometary globule better known as the Elephant Trunk.  Piercing the opaque dust of the nebula are several newly forming stars, while the entire scene is suffused with the glow of ionized hydrogen gas.  To the upper left of the frame travel the dark dusty shapes known to some as the Caravan.

Equipment and processing used: Celestron RASA-11 telescope with ZWO ASI294 MC Pro one shot color camera riding on an iOptron CEM120-EC2 mount.  N.I.N.A./PHD2 used for image acquisition.  135 individual five minute exposures (11.25 hours of data), captured in the early morning hours of July 11th - 14th, 2023 from Mariposa, Ca.   Processed using PixInsight.
