Description

NGC 281, also known as the Pacman Nebula, is an emission nebula in the Cassiopeia constellation, located about 9,200 light-years from Earth. Its distinctive appearance, resembling the video game character Pac-Man, is due to a central cavity formed by an open star cluster called IC 1590. The nebula is a region of active star formation, with young, hot stars ionizing surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to emit a red glow.
