Description

This object is part of the large molecular cloud LDN 1177 in the constellation of Cepheus and lies about 1500 light-years from Earth. The molecular cloud and the Ghost Nebula are among the so-called BOK globules and are therefore an active star formation region.

The scientist Joao L. Yun and his team discovered two freshly baked protostars in this nebula in 1996 with the help of radio astronomy (Discovery of new Protostars: Yun, Joao - Astronomical Journal v.111, p.930).
