Description

In Greek mythology, the Pleiades were the seven daughters of Atlas (a Titan who held up the earth) and Pleione (a sea nymph who protected sailors).  When Pleione and her daughters became the object of the hunter Orion’s amorous advances, Zeus protected them by placing them in the heavens as stars.   The stars are named after the 7 sisters  Maia, Alcyone, Asterope, Celaeno, Taygete, Electra, and Merope, and their parents Atlas and Pleione.

M45 is one of the nearest star clusters to earth and is mostly composed of hot, blue, and luminous spectral class B stars that are less than 100 million years old

This image was shot over three nights with a 60mm refractor, 533mc camera, and Astronomik L3 uv/ir cut filter.  It was stacked and processed with Astro Pixel Processor.
