Description

Captured this image of Comet ATLAS (C/2019 Y4) on the night of April 16, 2020. I only have an hour of imaging time between nightfall and when the comet passing behind some trees, so I wasn't able to capture many subs. Still, it was happy to see I managed to capture the comet. Sad that it is breaking up and we won't get to enjoy the show for much longer... This image was generated using my standard DSO processing flow, but I am working on learning on using the PixInsight Comet Alignment process to see if I can improve on the final image.

Imaged with WO GT81 at F4.7 (382 mm focal length) using Flat6A II field flattener/0.8x reducer, IDAS HEUIB-II (H-α Enhanced UV IR Blocking) filter, and full spectrum modified Nikon D5300. Total integration time of ~1 hours using 21 subs at ISO200 x 180 sec.

Pre-processed using PixInsight Batch Pre-Processing (BPP) script. Images calibrated using darks, flats, and flat darks. Post-processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with ABE, MLT for noise reduction, photometric color calibration, stretched using masked stretch, Curves Transformation, TGVDenoise for noise reduction, ocal histogram transform, morphological transform to shrink stars.
