Just can't resist imaging M42 over and over year after year! would you believe there are almost 20k images of Orion on Astrobin? Guess I'm not the only one year after year 😀.

I saved capturing this beauty for a dark site and I was fortunate this year to get 1.5 nights clear on the new moon from Chuchupate elevation 5,700 Bortle 4.5. God I wish I lived in such darkness! It was cold as my camera -10C was 0%. Capturing required some testing. I found that due to the sky glow from LA and Bakersfield, I got better results when using a light pollution filter in this case the Antlia TRI RGB. Processing was tedious but fun. GHS did a great job stretching. I learned I could mask (the Trapezium area) and stretch separately...so kind of a trick but no cheating 🤪 to bring them out. They are kind of a mess in this image, but the best I could do...there's always next year 😀. (I think I'll take 5" subs and then clone them in next year 😂). I went for bold and lots of contrast trying to bring out all the surrounding structures. APP for stacking did a fabulous job of removing the satellite trails which were in every sub. (I used APP's latest version 2.0.0 beta 26 for Apple silicon.) Since I had over 200 x 122.4MBs subs to integrate even my Mac Studio Ultra got hot...I had to put my lens duster fan on it 🤪. Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
