Sh2-173 is a very faint nebula in Cassiopeia. It is located about 3° NNE of the bright β Cassiopeiae (Caph), the star that represents the westernmost part of the "W" of Cassiopeia, and lies southwest of 12 Cassiopeiae, a blue-white fifth-magnitude star. Due to its strong northern declination, its observation is particularly possible from the regions of the Northern Hemisphere, from where it appears circumpolar to subtropical latitudes, while its visibility from the Southern Hemisphere is limited and limited only to the tropical regions. Due to circumstances, my astro friend Rüdiger handed over his optimized Esprit Triplet APO 80/400 (f/5) with Flattner. I had been interested in this before. I liked the light intensity of f/5, which could be increased further with a reducer. On October 14th there was a very nice, clear night and I was able to test with the new APO. I had chosen a very demanding object with the Sh2-173 and a DSLR. By using the 2" IDAS filter I created coma in the corners of the image. I haven't yet dealt with the optimal distance between "Sensor and Flattner" as there is still a need for optimization. In the individual recordings of Sh2-173 (The Phantom of the Opera) there is not much to see in the red channel. To make the nebula more visible I added an H-alpha recording in the red channel and also used it as a luminance channel.

Sh2-173 ist ein sehr lichtschwacher Nebel in der Kassiopeia. Er befindet sich etwa 3° NNO des hellen β Cassiopeiae (Caph), dem Stern , der den westlichsten Teil des „W“ von Cassiopeia darstellt, und liegt südwestlich von 12 Cassiopeiae, einem blau-weißen Stern fünfter Größe . Aufgrund seiner starken Norddeklination ist seine Beobachtung insbesondere von den Regionen der nördlichen Hemisphäre aus möglich, von wo aus er zirkumpolar bis in die subtropischen Breiten erscheint, während seine Sichtbarkeit von der südlichen Hemisphäre her eingeschränkt und nur auf die tropischen Regionen beschränkt ist. Umständehalber hat mein Astrofreund Rüdiger seinen optimierten Esprit Triplet APO 80/400 (f/5) mit Flattner abgegeben. Ich hatte mich schon früher dafür interessiert. Mir gefiel die Lichtstärke von f/5, die durch einen Reducer nochmals gesteigert werden könnte. Am 14. Oktober ergab sich eine sehr schöne klare Nachte und ich konnte mit dem neuen APO testen. Ich hatte mir mit Sh2-173 und einer DSLR ein sehr anspruchvolles Objekt ausgesucht. Durch Nutzung des 2“ IDAS-Filter habe ich in den Bildecken Koma erzeugt. Mit dem optimalen Abstand „Sensor - Flattner“ habe ich mich noch nicht auseinander gesetzt, da besteht noch Optimierungsbedarf. Auf den Einzelaufnahmen von Sh2-173 (Das Phantom der Oper) ist im roten Kanal noch nicht viel zu sehen. Um den Nebel besser sichtbar zu machen hatte ich eine H-Alpha-Aufnahme im roten Kanal hinzugefügt und auch als Luminanz-Kanal verwendet.
