Description

NGC 3109 is a dwarf galaxy located approximately 4.3 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. It is part of the Local Group of galaxies, which also includes the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. NGC 3109 is classified as an irregular galaxy due to its lack of a distinct, symmetrical shape. The galaxy is known for its relatively high velocity compared to the Milky Way, suggesting it is not gravitationally bound to our galaxy. NGC 3109 also exhibits signs of ongoing star formation, with young, blue stars visible in its disk.  The galaxy has a complex structure, with a warped disk and a prominent central bar.
