Description

SH2-170 - The Little Rosette in SHO (Hubble) palette w RGB stars (Cassiopiea) - Oct 2022
Planewave CDK12.5 - AIS6200MM
A-P 1100 GTO AE, Antlia Pro 3nm NB filters
H,O,S: (3 x 32 x 360s exposures, Bin 2x2, Gain 200)
R,G,B: (3 x 20 x 210s exposures, Bin 2x2, Gain 100) for stars
Total Integration Time = 13.1 hours
So, in the recent period of exploring starforming H2 areas with the telescope and camera, I decided to target Sh2-170. This mini-version of the Rosette nebula is of a remarkably similar structure as NGC2244, but is smaller (20' vs 70") in diameter. I have been unable to find out distance to do an actual size comparison. Judging from the shape of the cloud and dense globules, together with the bright sides of the globules, you can surmise that is the bright stars in the centre of the molecular cloud that is providing the illumination.
On the image processing side, my back insertion of stars methodology is coming together. I now have the ability to paste in round, low constrast stars as you see here, or stars with a more Gaussian shape depending on how you stretch the stars and masks.
