Description

Jupiter captured on the night of November 17, a week after opposition. The relatively stable night displayed excellent seeing conditions, allowing me to capture several video sequences during the meridian transit, with Jupiter at its maximum height. Transparency was good, especially considering the average conditions at my imaging site. Each of the two images in this panel is the result of a series of 14 exposures, each lasting 60 seconds and taken through one of the RGB filters. The exposures were appropriately derotated to eventually create the color couple shown in the panel, depicting Jupiter at two different moments 15 minutes away. The excellent seeing allowed me to fully leverage on the resolving power of my instrument, revealing numerous fine details on Jupiter's disk in both the equatorial bands and within the Great Red Spot.

These images effectively form a "stereo" pair due to the rotation of Jupiter's globe during the time passed between them: expand the image to full screen, focus on the center of the frame, and gently cross your eyes until the separate images merge, revealing the planet in a compelling three-dimensional perspective.

More details can be read on the panel.
