Description

Messier 101, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, is located approximately 21 million light-years from Earth and is 170,000 light-years in diameter. It exhibits a grand design spiral structure, with well-defined spiral arms containing young, massive stars, star-forming regions, and glowing gas clouds.

M101 is also home to a supernova, SN 2023ixf, discovered on May 19.
