Description

Sh2-54, the Serpent's Nebula sits overlooking the small open cluster NGC 6604 in a beautiful region of nebulosity that includes the Eagle and Omega nebulae in the constellation Serpens.

Here's a crop of the Serpent's Nebula, which I think is better called The Serpent's Lair.  I see a snakes head sticking out of its hidey hole and the ribbon of dark nebulosity behind it is the shadow of its body as it disappears deeper into the ground....  very subjective, of course

Captured once before but took another swing with the larger camera sensor to see how much more was there.  The sky surveys dont give much detail in this region so it was a bit of an exploration for me   Ended up with quite a bit of integration time as this served as backup target for my Carina and M83 projects after they dipped too low in the sky.  2-5 hrs gathered per night depending on sky conditions and rejection rate, over 16 nights.

Foraxx palette with rgb stars.
