Description

Is Centaurus A’s jet the most prominent signature of a supermassive black hole anywhere in the night sky? I feel like it might be, but whether or not that’s the case, I really wanted to highlight it in this image of a classic southern hemisphere target. The jet was only very fairly visible in LRGB, so I added a 25 hours of continuum subtracted Ha and OIII data to make it really stand out.

This was my first attempt with continuum subtraction. I found that I got better results when I used master frames generated without PixInsight's LocalNormalization. Not sure if this is a flaw with my process or a known issue. Anyhow, the final image uses masters with LN for the RGB data and without LN for narrowband.
