Description

The image contains a Messier Open Star Cluster, four SH2 Emission Nebulae and nine LDN Dark Nebulae. SH2-158 is particularly interesting. It is an Emission Nebula but there’s certainly more than that going on inside it. Depending on what you read, it is almost certainly also a Reflection Nebula and contains the largest known Proto Star yet discovered at 300 times the size of our Solar System. Even at 624mm focal length, the complexity and colours within the structure are easily visible.
