Description

The eclipse was an overwhelming event and I almost stopped filming and photographing after. I finally decided to give it a go and realized that the large, looped flare that was visible all day would feature even more prominently (after all, it is a prominence) as the disc was obstructed. This capture was taken shortly after third contact (end of totality) as the moon was giving the sun its light back. I took "long" exposures at around 14ms to capture the prominences, then a faster 0.5 - 1 ms exposure for the surface. I was recording at high resolution, so my frame rate was slow, and I only grabbed 200 captures. If you use simple PixelMath in PixInsight to subtract the surface from the chromosphere, it has the net effect of inverting so features like sunspots are highlighted. I think this, combined with a more "solar" color scheme, gives it unique depth and sharpness.
