Description

NGC 6791 is an interesting object, representing one of the oldest open star clusters in the Milky Way and estimated at 8.2 +/- 0.3 billion years old (see McKeever JM, et al. ApJ;874:180).  While not necessarily the most stunning astrophotographic target, it has been heavily studied and was a subject of investigation for the Kepler mission to find exoplanets.  I am not an astronomer but wonder whether JWST will also gaze in its direction one day.

I took this on a single night from my backyard, while waiting for another target to rise.  I'm glad I did.  It's a rather interesting image.  I may have to revisit this under dark skies, as there is clearly a hint of integrated flux nebulosity in the background.
