Description

This nebula is one of the more unique deep sky targets  of the Canis Major region. It is the result of a pre supernova stage of stellar evolution from a giant young Wolf-Rayet star (EZ Canis Majoris or WR 6).  Intense radiation from this central star creates hot hydrogen beta emissions giving it a blue color. This color is further enhanced by the unusual lack of hydrogen alpha (red) which dominates so many other nebula. It is quite low in the sky at 40 degrees north, so requires long exposures to reveal its presence at this latitude.
