Description

Collected over 5 nights from 12/29/22 - 1/25/23 from St Augustine, FL and New Hill, NC.

The Rosette Nebula is a large, circular HII region located in the Monoceros constellation, about 5,000 light-years away from Earth. It is a large cloud of gas and dust that has been ionized by the radiation from young, hot stars in its center, creating a bright emission nebula. The Rosette Nebula is one of the largest and most studied star-forming regions in the galaxy and its shape resembles a rose, hence its name. Astronomers believe that the stars at the center of the nebula are only a few million years old, and their strong radiation is causing the surrounding gas and dust to glow, creating the beautiful nebula we see today.
