Description

Another shot from our (Jens, Sophie, Torsten) remote telescope.  And here also a brief explanation:

NGC 2992 is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 110 million light-years away in the constellation of Antlia. This galaxy is characterized by a distinct bar-shaped structure crossing its center, with spiral arms emanating from it. It is classified as a Seyfert galaxy, meaning it harbors a supermassive black hole at its core that emits intense radiation as it accretes surrounding matter. NGC 2992 exhibits features commonly associated with active galactic nuclei, including strong radio emission and broad emission lines in its spectrum, indicative of energetic processes occurring within its nucleus.
