Description

NGC 7023, the Iris Nebula, is a reflectance nebula about 1,300 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cepheus.

Interestingly, infra-red measurements indicat that the nebula contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). On Earth these are found in crude oil and are formed when organic materials are heated, the cooking of a meat, for example. [1]
