Description

I decided to use up my final credit with Chilescope on Luminance imaging of three southern galaxies (Cen A, Antennae and M83). The intention was to combine the good seeing of Chilescope with the mediocre seeing of my home observatory.

I have previously posted M83 to Astrobin, and this is the Cen A image.  Can A is a brute to post-process, and encompassing the dynamic range form the inner dust lane (with its colours and structure) to the outer polar ring is well beyond my capabilities. [I suspect it may be easier in Photoshop, but my feeble attempts with masks in PI didn't work.]

In this case I have chosen to focus mostly on the inner dust lane with a tighter crop, but I also include a wider field view with the luminance layer grossly manipulated - so the shells and polar ring are more apparent.

L: 17 x 600sec
R: 30 x 300sec
G: 27 x 300sec
B: 24 x 300sec

Data taken with TS Hypergraph 8 @ Speargrass Flat Observatory (seeing 5arcsec) nd ASA500 at Chilescope (seeing 2.5arcsec)
