Description

The Pleiades has in the past been a bit of a nemesis of mine.

Each time I've tried to image M45 I've had a random issue. The camera sensor fogging up, running out of suitable imaging time and our usual friend the moon crashing the party to name a few.

This year I managed to grab a decent amount of data through the narrow gaps in cloud cover we've experienced this November/December.

I love finding hidden surprises in images and so recently I've been paying more attention to what else might be hiding out there. This area turned up a few of what look like tiny, far off galaxies hiding behind the dust around M45. I think I've confirmed a few of them from their catalogue numbers in the Principal Galaxies Catalogue. Although I think there may be a few more hidden off in the distance. I guess the more advanced annotation/platesolve on AstroBin might identify them but it's fun hunting for them.

Here are a few close up crops (top to bottom: PGC 13696, PGC 13992,  PGC 13557)

As always thanks for looking and wishing you all clear skies for the year to come.
