Description

The Veil Nebula complex in the constellation Cygnus. This is the remnant from a supernova...a stellar explosion some ten to twenty thousand years ago. It is an expanding complex of gas (primarily hydrogen and oxygen) and the solid matter (dust) of the progenitor star that ended its life in a colossal explosion and is spreading the elements that it synthesized during its lifetime back into space to become future generations of stars and planets. It lies at a distance of 2400 light years.
