Description

NGC 1961 (IC 2133) is a distorted spiral galaxy in Camelopardalis.  It's 220,000 LYs across and 200 million LYs from Earth.  The distortion has evidently not been linked to any known nearby companion galaxies.  NGC 1961 is the central member of the small group of nine galaxies, the NGC 1961 group.  I chose to crop the galaxy at the expense of several smaller galaxies in a broader FOV.  Hubble and Mt. Lemmon images show a dusty inner core with large concentrations of blue stars in the surrounding arms.   It was very challenging to draw out the bluish color in the arms but after much effort, I was able to get some of the way there.
