Description

M94 is a spiral galaxy commonly known as the Cat's Eye Galaxy or the Crocodile's Eye Galaxy, owing to its inner and outer rings.  It lies about 16 million light years away, in Canes Venatici. Wikipedia says that M94's stellar rotation suggests that it has little or no dark matter, which doesn't square with current theories of galaxy formation.

M94 dominates this image, but close inspection reveals a wealth of tiny galaxies and clusters around it.
