Description

To me, M45 was always one of the "beginner targets". But the star cluster is also really fascinating to me. But every time the Pleiades were on a position in the sky, where it is worth to take photographs, I decided to go for another object. The reason was, that I thought of getting a wider shot of it and the focal lengths combined with the sensor size didn't fit my imaginations. But this year I got another camera that allows me to change my setups a bit. So I was able to use my 350 TS refractor together with my ZWO ASI294MM Pro. Now, the Field of view fits M45 really well.

For the first time ever, I decided to take the images with the full sensor resolution of the IMX492. during processing, I realized, that it was really overkill. Before the session, I managed to analyze the focus shift of the filter set I use. This allowed me to take images of all LRGB filters after one another (3xL, 1xR, 1xG, 1xB). Until this day, I used every filter itself for a longer time. But imaging the filters one after the other showed a much better color distribution in the final image, because the conditions were nearly the same for all the sub frames.

I really like the result I got. The nebula is really bright, but there are also some faint details around the cluster. I like the framing as well and the FOV is really optimal to my taste. Should I do M45 ever again, I would decrease the exposure time for the Luminance filter. But the rest of the data is quite good for my setup. Because of the resolution, processing takes quite a while.
