Posted as a waypoint image - I am never happy with my astrophotography and this is no exception. I had endless problems in processing this owing to DSS not being able to eliminate the amp glow. Perhaps it's because I'm attempting to stretch the images too hard, I don't know. I'm just experimenting with this stuff without the benefit of a mentor. Anyway, this is a crop of the full image as the artifacts created by my crude attempts to remove the amp glow were too ugly to show.

This represents 8 hours on target and I intend to re-image this one at a later time and with different camera settings, I want to experiment with the offset (which means shooting a whole new Dark Library and new Bias frames as well) to see if that will give DSS an easier time.

Yeah, I know, I know... PixInsight would be able to sort it for me, because PixInsight is such an incredible Software Miracle it could probably even make Nickelback sound bearable. But I don't want to rely on a magical "black box" to sort out what is likely a schoolboy error in the capture causing my problems.

So I post this here as a reference image to come back to.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
