Description

A blast of fresh cool air from the North, cleared things up for a couple of hours, and gave me a wonderful view of the moon. Seeing and transparency were excellent, allowing me to retain 33/50 images. Hand selected, aligned, stacked, and processed in Nebulosity, I'm pleased with the detail in this cropped image, taken at full resolution 5440 x 3648 pixels. Sharpened using a Laplacian edge filter, and then 3x3 median filter to finish. I have included a sharper version (just the Laplacian edge filter) in Rev B for those who prefer. I'm sure processing a video feed would provide better results in Registax or the like, but I simply don't have the storage space or processing power, so make do with a more hands on approach.

Day 6 Lunar, has all sort of interesting features (which I've marked in Rev C).The dark basaltic Mare Crisium, Fecunditatus, Tranquillitatis and Nectaris dominate - and we've had a crisis in our weather patterns on earth recently! Surrounded by giant craters, high plains and mountain ranges. The most spectacular are perhaps the crater posidon, a 95 km wide depression with an obvious hill to the NE edge, and hints of the rille system on the crater floor.  The triple crater system of Theophyllis, Cyrillus and Catharina lie centrally on the terminator - Theophyllis a 110 km wide, and 4.2 km deep depression, has a grand central peak rising 1.4 km from the crater floor, with four summits to conquer. Finally the 427km escarpment, Rupes Altai, just to the west of these craters, leading to the crater Piccolomini, looks good in this lighting.
