Description

I finished phase one of my a roll-away building observatory and deck this fall. I started with the Pier Design. Although you can buy a telescope pier on-line they tend to be pretty pricey for me. I made my own with a 2" X 8" X 7' steel Rectangular Steel Tube that I had leftover from another project. After welding the receiver plate on the top and some 1/2" rebar going off in various angles. It was ready to go into a 3.5' diameter 4' deep hole along with about 1500 pounds of cement. Next I made an adapter plate for the Telescope Mount. Then I built the deck around the Pier. I purchased a steel 4' X 9' building with a wide door opening for about $300.

The next phase will be to rebuild the "10' X 12' chicken coup" which is directly behind and attached my deck. I had promised to convert the "chicken coup" into a writers cabin ( of which I'm reminded almost every day). I have already routed a two inch conduit pipe from the pier to inside the chicken coup. So phase two will be to make the chicken coup into a writers cabin / observatory control room.
