Description

In this image, I aimed to highlight three objects usually captured separately. The Jellyfish Nebula (Sh2-248 or IC443), visible in the bottom right corner, is a supernova remnant that spans approximately 70 light-years and is located 5,000 light-years from Earth. Centrally positioned on the left, Sh2-247 is a spheroidal H II region, associated with the Gemini OB1 association, containing a B0V class main-sequence blue-white star. The Monkey Head Nebula (Sh2-252 with NGC2175 and NGC2174), occupying the top left, is an open cluster enveloped in nebulosity, approximately 6,400 light-years away. The Foraxx Palette was instrumental in achieving a balanced chromatic representation, which was particularly challenging given the distinct characteristics and compositions of the three nebulae. Despite the adverse weather conditions and significant light pollution, careful selection of the best images resulted in this composite showcasing each nebula’s unique features. The number of discarded images due to these conditions was almost equal to those used for integration.
