Description

NGC 7822 is an emission nebula, a birthplace of many stars in the constellation of Cepheus. The emission nebula itself is also known as Sharpless 171, and the star cluster as Berkeley 59. It is assumed that this region is 3000 light years away from our solar system. With regard to the embedded star cluster, it can be said that the younger stars present there are only a few million years old and very hot. These stars are also the primary source of the nebula's light. The nebula complex was discovered by John Herschel on 16 November 1829. The revised image shows the nebula in bicolour. The image also shows the star cluster NGC 7762.
