Description

As bright and clear as it appears, it's difficult to imagine these photons from NGC488 travelling through space for over 90 million years.

Most of this luminance was collected a day before a storm was moving in. This is when I see the steadiest skys. The FWHM of the 115 5-min L subs averaged near 2.5" with many subs < 2".

Color calibration uses the latest PI SpectrophotometricColorCalibration with the large Gaia DR3/SP catalog. The filter and QE curve settings match the actual equipment.

Observations of the kinematics of the disk stars indicates the disk is dynamically "cool". This means NGC 488 cannot have experienced many or even minor mergers in the past.
