Description

One of the brightest and best known globular clusters  is M13 in the Hercules constellation, home to hundreds of thousands of stars 25,000 light years away and approximately 145 light years across with a 5.8 apparent magnitude. It was discovered by Edmund Halley in 1714 and added to the Messier catalogue in 1764. The individual stars in the cluster were not able to be resolved until 1779.
