Description

The image is the result of a number of sessions From March to July 2023 and was processed as RGBSHO.

NGC 6820 (also  Sh2-86) is an emission nebula associated with the open cluster NGC 6823 in the constellation Vulpecula. NGC 6820 was discovered by the German astronomer Albert Marth in 1864.

NGC6823 is around 6000 light years from Earth and has a width of around 50 light years. The center of the cluster formed around two million years ago and contains a number of bright young blue stars; younger stars are found further from the center of the cluster.

The "pillar" seen in the nebula is 98 light years long and around 16 light years wide and has an estimated mass of 4 million solar masses [1].
