Description

Unfortunately I haven't been able to capture any of the recent auroral activity myself. I was travelling on Friday night when things were really kicking off and I headed out to some dark skies on Saturday but was unable to see any display.

However Saturday daytime I was able to capture some of the root cause, the active region AR 13664 and a huge arching prominence, pretty cool to see that thing pop out on the laptop screen when I increased the exposure time.

I really need want to figure out a good way of achieving uniform illumination across the sun, I assume it's because I haven't been applying a flat but in this image particularly the right hand side has some nice contrast whilst the left hand side is too bright, I found it tricky to minimise that in post processing. Please feel free to share your any wisdom on how I might be able to avoid this in the future and how you take and apply your flats, I'm really eager to improve on this.

During the session I also witnessed my first plane shoot across in front of the sun, it was pretty cool to see but unfortunately I wasn't recording at the time.

Thanks for looking all and clear skies
Danny
