Description

This image is a data composition  of starless HOO (FORAXX) + starless RGB + RGB stars. The idea is to show emission structures as well as ISM (non-emission) structures - and finally to show spectrographic color calibrated stars.

The image shows the region centered about IC 5068 (also known as LBN 328).  Included are LBN  320, 327, 329, 332, 348/349 and dark nebulae LDN 915. Several dark nebulae from the TGU catalog are in this region - TGU H497 P3, P9, P11, P15, P19, and P20. There are dusty clouds (ISM) throughout this region - they are the darkish brown areas seen in the image.  Some of the bright stars shown in the annotation range from 470 light years to 2,620 light years distant. Distance for IC 5068 and surrounding nebulosity is difficult to pin down, but it is believed to be in the 1,600 light year range.  These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
