Description

Here are some step-by-step results on my recent M1 photo, as posted here https://www.astrobin.com/dsaojg

A: Integration of 36 x 10 min dual narrowband exposures in Ha/[OIII]. Basic light pollution removal and star color calibration in AstroPixelProcessor. See also: https://www.astrobin.com/hp5clp

B: Integration of 24 x 10 min dual narrowband exposures in [SII]/Hb. Basic light pollution removal and star color calibration in AstroPixelProcessor.

C: Extracted Ha, [SII], [OIII], and Hb signals, light pollution processing only. Ha mapped to red-orange. [SII] mapped to yellow. [OIII] mapped to cyan. Hb mapped to teal.

D: Recombination of separate narrowband channels in AstroPixelProcessor (using add-scale instead of multiply-scale). Inspired by the iconic NASA image and comparing where my narrowband components best matched theirs, I chose an Ha-S-O-Hb palette:
  • Ha (red-orange): x1.25
    • (100,25,1)

  • [SII] (gold): x2.5
    • (100,100,1)

  • [OIII] (blue-green): x1
    • (1,50,100)

  • Hb (teal): x6
    • (1,100,100)

E: After application of BlurXTerminator (an AI deconvolution sharpening filter) in PixInsight

F: After application of NoiseXTerminator (an AI denoising filter) in PixInsight

G: After minor tweaks to black level and contrast curves in PhotoShop

H: After using StarXTerminator to separate and sharpen stars (simple method: reduce gamma).
